Wangari Mathenge is a Kenyan brand that evokes and advocates a free spirit who dresses to please no one but themselves. She experiments with quirk cuts, playing with volume to deconstruct and transform garments to a Wangari Mathenge craft.

Working in an Environment Conservation company as a PR & Communications Officer, Wangari was exposed to linking communities, tourism and conservation-her job entailed traveling to Maasai Mara and Samburu to mobilise and promote Community Based Organisations, she was inspired by the Maasai way of dressing using the shuka that she bought a few and deconstructed them to stylish ponchos and kimonos-That was the start of the brands journey.

Her work has been featured in several regional media that include True Love Magazine, Drum and Couture Africa. In 2017 she was nominated and featured in Kenya Fashion Awards in the Next Generation category as an upcoming designer.

She is heavily influenced by traditional cultures and attempts to maximise on minimalistic ideas.
